Founded: The Daily Herald, founded as a weekly in 1884, went daily in the early 1900s. It was purchased in 1968 by The State-Record Company. In 1973, the South Mississippi Sun was launched. In 1985 the papers became the Sun Herald, which Knight Ridder bought in 1986.
