Out-of-Country Medical Care

» Aetna's National Medical Excellence (NME) unit coordinates out-of-country care. If you are covered by McClatchy's medical insurance and have a medical emergency while traveling outside of the United States, you can contact either the Informed Health Line (IHL) number noted on your Aetna ID card or contact Aetna's National Medical Excellence unit directly at 1-877-212-8811 (toll free) or 1-215-775-6445. If you contact IHL, which is available 24/7, you will be referred to NME. The NME telephone numbers are staffed during regular work hours. After hours, the calls are routed to an answering machine with pager information. The pager is staffed 24/7. The NME unit also has access to plan designs and eligibility information for McClatchy employees and their covered dependents and can confirm this information for providers performing emergency medical services.
